Intel has released the newest generation of processors in early November 2008. This processor is the next generation of processors while still using the previous Core name, already microarsitektur although different from Core 2 and Core. Previously most people suspect that Intel will provide the name of this new processor with name Core 3, but the reality in a few months ago, Intel was officially named the Core i7. This processor can also be called or have a code name Nehalem. We as consumers in Indonesia will be more difficult this processor is the new name of course, unlike the Pentium legend, almost everybody if you want to buy a computer will surely ask, "What Pentium is not it?" The Core name recognition and the early launch of Core 2 processors that alone is difficult enough, now replaced with Core i7 certainly be more difficult again, but this is exactly what the secret of Intel in making its product branding.
What's so special about the Core i7 processor is this? What are the technologies that diusungnya? Broadly speaking, the specification may be mentioned that different Core i7 processor with a processor - Intel before, including :
- Having a higher performance and more efficient in energy use compared with previous generation processors.
- FSB (Front Side Bus) is replaced by QuickPath interface. While this is only a chipset that supports QuickPath Interface that could use this processor, such as Intel's X58 chipset.
- Memory Controller is in the processor, unlike the previously separate in a separate chip. With this technology will be directly connected with the memory processor. Intel apparently quite impressed with its competitors, which AMD has long been using this technology.
- Three Channel Memory Support, each - each channel contains two memory slots, so the total slots available in the mainboard that supports this processor there are 6 slots. Of course the memory capacity that can be supported by this processor will be even greater.
- Core i7 processor while it only supports DDR 3 memory types.
- Core i7 uses a single-die device: core (core processors), memory controller (memory control), and the cache is in a die.
- Using a new socket type is Socket B (LGA 1366 Socket)
In addition to new things above, proved to be within the Core i7 processor is reusing old technology Intel Pentium that has not applied in the generation Intel Core, namely Hyper-Threading. With the Hyper-Threading technology in operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) as the core processor will be 2 times as much, for example: in the operating system Core i7 processor 4 cores to 8 cores will be detected.
Types of Core i7 processor that has been released is the kind of Extreem Edition and the usual, some of which are:
- Core i7 965 extreme Edition, with Clock 3.2 GHz, 8 MB L3 Cache, 45 nm, Socket LGA 1366
- Core i7 940, with clock 2.93 GHz, 8 MB L3 cache, 45 nm, Socket LGA 1366
- Core i7 920, with clock 2.66 GHz, 8 MB L3 Cache, 45 nm, Socket LGA 1366
All of the above processors have four cores (4 core processor) or more commonly referred to as Quad Processor. For example, a lower version of this Intel Dual Core while not provide official data.
